My name is Enrique but everyone calls me "Freckles" since I can remember. I´m an art director because of destiny and I have over 14 years doing it. I love music; I'm super fan of The Cure, Pink Floyd and Depeche Mode (in that order). Another of my passions is photography, I haven´t the best technique but I love that each photo tells a story either a landscape or an everyday scene 8check my Instagram fedd). Voluntarily one day I decided to learn web design and I went to do it without knowing anything about it, and today is what I do for living.
I'm not a graphic designer. Yes. I studied Communication Media and Tecniques and destiny was the one who took me to be art. Although I am not a writer, I think I have a pretty decent style and good spelling, I don't do very often but if I have to do I don't have any problem doing it. I'm not an artist wanting to be a publicist or vice versa. I don't think myself as a rockstar because I'm still hungry to do new things. No. I don't have any international awards, the only agency where I could get part of ad festivals was Ogilvy in 2007; other agencies where I worked they dont' participate or are not cared about festivals, so my greatest achievement has been a shortlist in Cannes 2008, a shortlist in two years does not seem so bad.
I started my career at a small agency in Mexico City called "Creati" and then started my going back and forth for several of the most important advertising agencies in Mexico until 2010, when after a trip to Costa Rica I decided to get out of the corporate world and start my own adventure to learn how to design web pages from scratch. I think one of my strengths is creating concepts, I'm good to take an idea to any platform, of course the print medium is the easiest for me, as I mentioned earlier, although I'm not a designer, if I have to design a logo, a brochure or other material I'll figure out without any problem, but I feel that's not my greatest strength.
That's a good question. If you ask me if I'm looking for work, I always answer the same: "I'm fine but I can be better" and not just in an advertising agency but any company that might require concepts, ideas and designs and either in Mexico or in another country, I have nothing to prevent me to move on. I currently work as Creative Director of my own small company called SKP, as Content Manager in Home Films a production company and sometimes some other things like webmaster, consultant or whatever is needed (no, I do not sell food on Sundays yet).
I've been lucky that I managed accounts that do much print and a little bit of television ads that's why my book focuses on that. I also believe that as Art Director you can have more control over your prints, which you can edit personally, which does not happen in a television commercial where are many people involved in the process. I also think that an idea should be simple, clear and powerful, and should continue doing that even if you remove any items until they are as few as possible. Here also you can find a very small sample of my work in btl and web.
